The Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London is now showing Cameron Mackintosh's new staging of Lionel Bart's "Oliver!" one of the most favourite British musicals. This London theatre, officially located on Catherine Street is backing onto Drury Lane just to the east of London Covent Garden.
Dating back to James I reign, the Royal Drury Lane Theatre was designed by Christopher Wren after the Restoration of the monarchy in the 17th century. It suffered from a fire in later years and in the mid-eighteenth century was managed by the well-known English actor David Garrick. The present Theatre Royal in Drury Lane, designed by Benjamin Wyatt, opened in 1812 with a stunning production of Hamlet.
