Arguably, the most famous address in the world, 221b Baker Street, Westminster, London NW16XE, is a fictional address created to house the famous Sherlock Holmes Museum. Arthur Conan Doyle's legendary detective with unparalleled prowess of deductive reasoning along with his sidekick Dr John H Watson go through a number of mysteries capturing the vivid imagination of people around the world. The incredibly well-woven aura about the cocaine addicted Sherlock Holmes made fiction seem real and people started believing that such a person really existed.
At a first glance, the Georgian style Sherlock Holmes Museum, will definitely seem spooky. The ground plus three floor museum houses Holmes two-room apartment, the second and third floors display exhibits and dramatically positioned life-size wax figures of Holmes and Watson. One almost expects to bump into them and that is quite a thrill for visitors. Antiques, souvenirs and ephemera are sold on the ground floor.
The museum has a curio shop with a host of collectibles to choose from and each item comes stamped with Holmes' famous silhouette with a pipe in his mouth. An authentic Metropolitan police whistle or deer-stalker hats are great buys at the museum, along with the books, CDs, puzzles, and games. The Sherlock Holmes Museum is located in Westminster; Central London at the Southwest corner of Regent's Park and is open every day to visitors between 9.30 am to 6.30 pm, except during Christmas. Entry is £6 for adults and £4 for children below 16. You can get here by rail alighting at the Paddington or the Marylebone stations, or the Marylebone and the Baker Street tubes.
