Royal Albert Hall
Royal Albert Hall is located in the Knightsbridge area of the City of Westminster, London, England and is most well known for holding the annual summer Proms concerts since 1941. Royal Albert Hall was initially supposed to be named as The Central Hall of Arts and Sciences. The name was changed by Queen Victoria to Royal Albert Hall of Arts and Sciences when laying the foundation stone as a dedication to her husband and consort, Prince Albert.
The Royal Albert Hall hosts more than 350 performances including classical concerts, rock and pop, ballet and opera, tennis, award ceremonies, school and community events, charity performances and lavish banquets. The hall has two box entrances and separate entrances on either side for the balcony, the gallery with amphitheatrically constructed interior. The Royal Albert Hall ranks a No. 1 venue exclusively for concerts. At the top of the hall is the picture gallery, capable of accommodating 2,000 persons, and used on ordinary occasions as a promenade. There are hydraulic lifts to the upper floors. Altogether the hall can accommodate approximately 8,000 audiences at a time.
One can easily reach the Royal Albert Hall from High St Kensington tube station, following High St Kensington into Kensington Gore where the hall falls on the on the right side. Parking is a little restricted around the Albert Hall. However, a small number of spaces are available at the Imperial College car park located nearby. Children under five are generally not admitted. Children aged five and over must have a full price ticket. At the Royal Albert Hall, unlike regular theatres, the stalls are not at the front - they are the first raised level above the arena area. The hall is also one of the most visited attractions of London by the tourists.
