Notting Hill Guide

Notting Hill Guide :

A guide to great times!

Notting Hill was just another upper crust London quarter known only to Londoners until it gained worldwide renown with the movie of the same name, which added considerably to its appeal. The area looks just like it was depicted on the big screen and is a favourite weekend hangout for Londoners and others who hope to catch a glimpse of a celebrity or two, as Notting Hill is home to the rich and famous from the worlds of music, movies and big business. It has lots of fashionable bars, trendy restaurants and designer shops. Notting Hill is also famous for its annual Caribbean inspired Notting Hill Carnival, Europe's largest street carnival that takes places every year in August.
So try to be here in time for the next!

The equally well known Portobello Road Market is an experience in itself. The market stretches over a mile and is filled with a whole array of stalls, selling everything from bric-a-brac and antiques to fruits. Do remember to visit Admiral Vernon, one of the largest antique stores in the market. The second hand market is on Fridays while the antiques market is on Saturdays. Access is from Notting Hill Gate and Ladbroke Grove tube stations.

For more shopping, stroll down Westbourne Grove, which runs from Bayswater to the middle of Notting Hill. It features a wide selection of restaurants and shops. The western end of the road has a Continental atmosphere, with lots of outdoor piazza style cafes.

In the opposite direction, Notting Hill is a short walk from the shops of Kensington High Street and the slightly more exclusive Kensington Church Street. If you are inclined to a pleasant daytime or evening stroll, the Kensington Palace and Gardens are just 10 minutes away.
