Accidents & Emergencies
Under the National Health Scheme to nationals from the European Union and a number of other countries, emergency medical treatment, either in a hospital or general practitioner's, is available without charge. Australia, New Zealand and various other countries also have a reciprocal agreement with Britain. There is a fixed fee for medicine prescribed by GPs and dispensed by chemists.

The emergency number in Britain is 999. When you dial this number the telephone operator will ask you what service you require i.e. Ambulance, Fire or Police. They will take your telephone number and you will then be connected to the relevant service.
