The London Lyric Shaftesbury theatre was designed by C.J. Phipps and opened in the 1880s with the comic opera Dorothy from the Prince of Wales Theatre, featuring Marie Tempest. In 2000, the theatre became an extremely functional London theatre when Lord Lloyd-Webber's actually practical crowd and Bridgepoint Capital acquired Stoll Moss Theatres Ltd. The Lyric Shaftesbury Theatre in London has seen many actors and comedians perform on its stage. In 2003 Al Murray performed at the Lyric Theatre with his Who Dares Wines?, Strindberg's Dance of Death starring Sir Ian McKellen, The Pub Landlord, and the original musical Beautiful and Damned based on the lives of Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald was presented by Gem Theatrical Productions Limited.
