Long established as the most colourful ceremonial event of the Summer calendar, the Trooping of the Colour celebrates the Queen's official birthday - Her Majesty's actual birthday being on 21st April. This display of pageantry is carried out by many battalions of superbly disciplined soldiers in full dress uniform, with a different Battalion giving the Royal Salute each year march down The Mall and gather on Horseguards Parade, where they will be joined by the Queen for the main ceremony. The event attracts large numbers each year and you are advised to stake your place well ahead of the time of the event. Alternatively, if you check closer to the time, there will be two smaller events where the Horse Guards practise for the main event.
