This is a special kind of garden show at the old Spitalfields Market, which features fresh fruit, flowers, home grown produce, handicrafts and much more and, best of all, allows anybody to enter. A typically English affair, Spitalfields Show and Green Fair is enormously competitive - those who enjoy gardening and are good at it entering competitions for the largest marrow or best garden or flower design. There is a total of 13 sections and over 100 classes, including a special section strictly for children only. You do not need to have a large back garden or even bigger space to enter - a window box will do so long as you can grow items to show. If you want to participate in the competitions, you should arrive by 9 a.m. as judging takes place at 11 a.m. The show opens up to the public between 12.00 and 4 p.m. The judges announce the winners and present their prizes at 4 p.m. At 4.15 p.m. any uncollected entries are auctioned, with the funds raised going towards the cost of the following year's show.
In addition to the competitions and classes, there will be a wide variety of stalls selling art and crafts, garden produce, organic food and drinks. Definitely a great event for the whole family, you can get advice on environmental matters, join a workshop and see in detail the workings of the Spitalfields City Farm and a Dog Show.
