This year the Shoreditch Festival 2008 will celebrate the 'marriage of sports and arts' - that is the theme that will highlight the start of the London Cultural Olympiad on Sunday 24 August. The festival's main arena will be the Shoreditch Park, where the free music festival will be held on Saturday 16 August. The festival will emphasize the area's musical achievements and newly adapted creative techniques throughout the years and will try to shape a musical movement to encourage future festivals.
This 9 day mix of entertainment will welcome the world with all kinds of activities for all ages in Shoreditch Park: live musicians will perform, children will have their own playground with special shows, sport tournaments and other exciting activities will take place.
The organizers highlight the Tour de Shoreditch, which will take place on Sunday 17 August, and will be dedicated to all kinds of cycling. You might decide to take up a guided bike ride around the Borough or enjoy the extreme cycling displays.
If you love arts, the English National Ballet will perform on the 22 August with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra to follow the next day.
It is worth visiting the festival on Sunday 24 August as it is a historical day for host borough Hackney. On that special day there will be an official welcome of the Olympics to London and the themed party will follow on Hoxton Street. This is a great chance to review the last time the Olympic Games were held in London.
The BBC Big Band will be closing the Shoreditch Festival 2008, so if you want to enjoy live music and great company - don't miss the opportunity.
