The proms 2009For 100 years The Proms has been the best known season of classical music in the United Kingdom and an enormously varied programme of different music always draws large audiences.

Best known, of course, is the Last Night of the Proms, when the Royal Albert Hall fills with Brits - and some not so British - waving Union Jack flags and belting out well known national songs, including the national anthem.

The Proms aims to reach out to everybody with a programme that mixes well known classical music with much less well known pieces that can mean going to a concert to hear the music of a favourite composer and leave having discovered a composer unknown before.

Each concert has 500 standing tickets available at the door for a mere £5.00, which makes each and every concert both popular and accessible, giving all the chance to hear top orchestras and soloists. Each concert is an opportunity for the audience to indulge in a real sense of fun for very much less than the price of a cinema ticket. The Proms also includes a series of chamber music concerts at Cadogan Hall along with outdoor events across the country. You are best advised to arrive early to queue for tickets for the biggest stars and be prepared to queue overnight for entrance to the Last Night of the Proms.
