
The Xchanging Boat Race 2012 in London

The Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race '12 in London started as a challenge between two student friends, Charles Merivale at Cambridge University and Charles Wordsworth (Poet William Wordsworth nephew) who was at Oxford University.
It was Cambridge that first challenged Oxford on 12th March 1829, and to this day each year the loser of the previous year's boat race challenges their rivals to a rematch.
These days the Xchanging Boat Race in London becomes an international sporting event, with millions of people watching on TV worldwide. Whilst on the banks of the Thames from Putney to Mortlake, some 250,000 spectators come along to cheer on their favourite team.
Last year Oxford won the boat race, making the current score as 76 wins to Oxford versus 80 wins to Cambridge.
On Saturday 7th April 2012 at 2:15pm, the 157th Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race in London will take place.
There are vantage points all the way along the River Thames for the Xchanging Boat Race '12 in London; we recommend that you head down to Putney Bridge which is the start of the race so you can see the teams preparing for the big race. Once the race is under way you will be able to view the action from giant screens located in Bishops Park, just by Putney Bridge.
