The Fourth Plinth at Trafalgar Square London has been used to exhibit modern art since 1998. Originally intended to display an equestrian statue in 1841, the Fourth Plinth at Trafalgar Square London ran out of funds and was unoccupied for 157 years! Today, the Fourth Plinth at Trafalgar Square London has had many interested displays thanks to the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA).
The Mayor of London has created a Fourth Plinth Commission to ensure that art continues to be displayed on the Fourth Plinth at Trafalgar Square London.
The Fourth Plinth at Trafalgar Square London has featured works by Mark Wallinger, Bill Woodrow and Rachel Whiteread; Marc Quinn's Alison Lapper Pregnant, Thomas Schutte's Model for a Hotel, Anthony Gormley's One and Other (2009) and the currently Yinka Shonibare's Nelson's Ship in a Bottle.
