Imperial War Museum in London will open the exhibition "For Your Eyes Only: Ian Fleming and James Bond" to celebrate the world's most famous spy. It is the first comprehensive exhibition to cover the life and works of 007's creator.

James Taylor, the creator explains that Bond was Fleming's fantasy version of him, "they were two different people.

Bond is, in some ways, who Fleming would have liked to have been. During the war he worked in Naval Intelligence but it was a desk job. He wasn't able to partake in any frontline operations. Bond also acts as a mouthpiece for Fleming's own world view, particularly as regards Britain's role in the world". For Your Eyes Only will exhibit plots by Bond, to root the villains. It will examine to what extent the books and films reflect the reality of the Cold War and life in postwar Britain and how far they were a product of Fleming's prodigious imagination.

The show will display exceptional objects like Fleming's desk and chair from his Jamaican home Goldeneye, the jacket worn by Fleming on the Dieppe Raid of 1942 a map of the Mercury News Network established by Ian Fleming in the 1950s showing where all Sunday Times foreign correspondents were based.

You will also find a selection of annotated Bond manuscripts; the Colt Python .357 Magnum revolver presented to Fleming by the Colt company in 1964. The show will also display the manuscript for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and a working model of an Aston Martin DB5 made for HRH Prince Andrew in 1966, complete with gadgets from the films Thunderball and Goldfinger. There will also be an official book to accompany the Imperial War Museum exhibition For Your Eyes Only: Ian Fleming and James Bond published by Bloomsbury in April 2008.
