The Story of a British Sports Car is a new exhibition to be held at the Design Museum (until 28 November). It tells the story of the evolution of the E-Type Jaguar's design by Malcolm Sayer and engineer William Haynes. The stylish car with its long, low lines captured people's attention and epitomised the glamour of early 1960's Britain. www.designmuseum.org.

GETTING UP CLOSE TO ROYALTY
Believe it or not, it really is possible to visit many of London's royal residences and palaces. The London home of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother from 1953 until 2002, Clarence House is now the official residence of the Prince of Wales. It was built between 1825 and 1827 to the designs of John Nash for Prince William Henry, Duke of Clarence, who resided there as King William IV from 1830 until 1837.

Kensington Palace was the favourite residence of successive sovereigns until 1760. It was also the birthplace and childhood home of Queen Victoria and one-time home of Diana, Princess of Wales. Today it accommodates the offices and private apartments of a number of members of the Royal Family and is furnished with items from the Royal Collection. Historic parts of the Palace are open to the public.

The Royal Mews at Buckingham Palace is one of the finest working stables in existence. It also provides a unique opportunity for visitors to see the work of the Royal Household department that provides road transport for The Queen and members of the Royal Family by both horse-drawn carriage and motor car. There is a permanent display of State vehicles, including the magnificent Gold State Coach used for Coronations. For much of the year visitors to the Royal Mews can also see the 30 or so carriage-horses which play an important role in The Queen's official and ceremonial duties. www.royal.gov.uk
