London Imperial War Museum - London Museums

Imperial War Museum

The Imperial War Museum in London is a great place to visit and get an insight into the world's conflicts from the British perspective. Founded in 1917 this museum has a rich collection of painting, sculptures, posters, films, videotapes, photographs and much more. The museum, despite its grandiose name, features people that are still alive or their parents and grandparents.

There are always new and fresh exhibitions featuring valuable collections. Apart from that you can always visit the Cabinet War Rooms, under Whitehall, near Downing Street and H.M.S. Belfast.

The Imperial War Museum is now holding exhibitions on Ian Fleming to commemorate his birth as well as an exhibition on the life and work of the most famous secret agent, James Bond, who made his name a trademark. You can visit both of them until 1st March 2009.

'From War to Windrush' is another free exhibition at the IWM in London that will last until the 29th March 2009 which will feature personal stories of Black people from the West Indies and Britain in the First and Second World Wars.

If you like British art, visit the 'Breakthrough' exhibition that will present a range of artists and their outstanding work. One of the most recent exhibitions, 'Displaced', that presents the art work of Osman Ahmed, a Kurdish artist reflecting on his people's suffering during Sadam Hussein's Anfal during the late 1980s, is a good chance to familiarize with both the Kurdish contemporary art and historical events.

Visit the IWM and discover a history of Wars.
